JDT Islam College of Arts and Science
JDT Islam College of Arts and Science is an institution affiliated to the University of Calicut, administered by the JDT Orphanage and Educational institution trustee. The institution started functioning in 2005 with three UG Programmes namely BBA, BA Functional English and BSc Biotechnology. It expanded over the years, adding on different other programmes like B.Com. (Finance) and B.C. A in 2008; B.Sc. Computer Science and B. A Multimedia in 2010; Hotel Management and Catering Science in 2013; B.Sc. Mathematics and B.Com. Cooperation in 2014; Food Technology and B.T.T.M. in 2018; B.A English Language and Literature in 2019; B.Sc. Psychology and B.Com. Computer Application in 2020. Adding feathers to the crown, the college also provides two Post graduate programmes, M.A Multimedia started in 2012 and M.Com. in 2018 and B.A Sociology in 2024. At present, with 16 UG and 2 PG programmes, the institution has completed its 18 years of service imparting quality education to the students.
The institution has not just achieved laurels in the academic activity alone but also in extracurricular activities. The college is frequently bestowed with the first position among self-financing colleges in university level Arts Fest. This college is constructed with an area of 87,436 sq ft. The management and the institution have taken utmost care in providing all basic amenities/facilities like spacious classrooms, well equipped library, Multimedia Studio, Computer Labs, Practical labs for Biotechnology, Hotel Management and Food Technology, Language and Informatics Centre, Seminar/Conference Hall, examination hall, and separate hostels for boys and girls.
In order to inculcate socio-political awareness and a sense of responsibility among the students, the college has instilled NSS, NCC units (for girls and boys) and Pain and Palliative care units. Palliative care unit of the college has made remarkable contributions to the needy people for the last three years. Athletes of our college have rendered international recognition. In 2006, the college bagged a state award for conducting an awareness programme for anti-drug activities organized by the excise department, Government of Kerala. Anti-ragging cell, Women’s cell and Grievance redressal cell - the three inevitable units which cater to the psychological and physical wellbeing of our students are run successfully within the guidance and norms of the institution and the University. All the laurels achieved by the college are a result of collective effort of the principal, teaching / non-teaching staff and students’ union of the institution.

Code of conduct
- Students and staff in the college shall co-operate with the college authorities to ensure peaceful atmosphere congenial to the academic activities, overall development of the students and for the maintenance of discipline in the campus.
- Every student should behave and conduct himself/herself both inside and outside the college in a becoming and gentlemanly manner. He or she should be neat and tidy in wearing uniform dress prescribed, which is compulsory. Students should be courteous to one another and to the members of the staff. All traces of vulgarity should be erased from their conversation and behavior. When a student meets members of the teaching staff or superiors, he/she should greet them in an appropriate manner.
- Every student should carry his/her identity card and produce it on demand by the authorities or persons authorized to do that.
- Unauthorised entry of outsiders into the campus is strictly prohibited. Unless permitted by the college authorities, students shall not bring or entertain outsiders within the campus.
- No one shall distribute or circulate any notice, pamphlet, leaflet etc. within the campus and shall exhibit any type of banners, flags, posters, notices etc. without the prior sanction of the principal.
- No one shall stick bills, posters or scribble on any part of the building, compound wall, any wall, blackboards or furniture.
- Students should attend classes regularly and secure a minimum of 75% attendance in order to be eligible to appear for the university examinations. Absence on any day shall be with the prior intimation to the class teacher and if that is not possible, an application for leave for the period of absence shall be submitted to the class teacher on the very first day of his/her return to the college giving reasons thereof, endorsed by the parents with relevant documents such as medical certificates etc. The principal is the sole authority to grant leave for such absence based on the recommendation of the Head of the Department.
- Only if a student secures a minimum of 75% attendance during an academic year shall be eligible to continue the course of study during the succeeding academic year.
- Any student who is persistently insolent or insubordinate or willfully and repeatedly commits mischief or is guilty of fraud or malpractice or who in the opinion of the principal is likely to have an unwholesome influence on his fellow students or tarnish the reputation of the institution shall be removed from the rolls. The removal shall be either temporary or permanent subject to the gravity of the misconduct.
- Nobody shall collect money from others either by request or by coercion in the campus except by specific permission of the principal.
- Students are strictly prohibited from bringing vehicles or two wheelers inside the college campus.
- Students are strictly prohibited from taking mobile phones at the campus corridor and particularly in the classrooms. If the mobile phone is confiscated the student need to pay the prescribed fine with the acknowledgement of the parents.
- In case the students have any grievance or complaint they shall approach the teacher/tutor first. If they are not satisfied, they may approach the head of the department and then if needed appeal to the principal. The principal at his/her discretion may forward the matter to the Grievance redressal Committee comprising the principal, the concerned Head of the Department and one staff member nominated by the principal.
- All expressions of the activities which are immoral, antisocial, communal and anti-national are strictly prohibited on the college campus.
- The student’s union shall strive to attain the following objectives:
- To train students of the college in the duties, responsibilities and rights of citizenship
- To promote opportunities for the development of character, leadership, efficiency, knowledge and spirit of service among students.
- To organize debates, seminars, work squads, picnics and such other functions.
- To encourage sports, arts and other cultural, social or recreational activities that are incidental and conducive to the above objectives.
- The principal shall be the final authority in the interpretation of the college rules.
- Ragging is a criminal offence and students are strictly warned not to indulge in ragging.
- Students indulging in ragging will be summarily punished.
Attendance and Leave
- The working day is divided into 3 periods in the morning session and 2 periods in the evening session.
- Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each period. If a student is absent in one period in any of the session, she/he will lose ½ day’s attendance.
- Leave of absence for a period or for a portion of it may be obtained from the tutor concerned. Leave for several periods must be obtained from the Principal in writing and in advance. No leave will be granted unless the Principal is satisfied with the reason.
- Students shall not take leave unless it is absolutely necessary. By irregularity in attendance, they run the risk of not securing the required number of term days to appear for the university examinations.
- The annual certificate of attendance and progress required by the university for admission to the university examinations will in no case be granted unless the student has secured not less than three fourth of the total number of the working days in the academic year.
- Students should submit application for leave to the tutor or HOD. If the absence is due to illness or other medical grounds, the application for leave should be supported by a medical certificate.
- The Attendance/ Progress/ Conduct Certificate (APC) required by the University for admission to university examination will not be granted unless
- The Principal is satisfied about the student's conduct and progress.
- The student has attended 75% of working days in the current semester.
- The student who is absent for fifteen consecutive working days will be removed from the nominal roll.
- If a student is unable to attend classes as he/she represents the college in extracurricular activities such as sports, games, N.S.S., N.C.C., artistic or literary activities he/she may apply for attendance for such days. Such applications shall be duly recommended by the member of staff concerned and shall be submitted not later than the next of the activity. Late application will not be entertained. The principal reserves all rights to grant or refuse such applications

JDT group of institutions is a prestigious one paramount to any other socially committed entity in the vicinity, located in Vellimadukunnu,Calicut. Founded and managed by the JDT Islam Orphanage Committee, it has proven its spirit throughout the years, since it's inception in 1922. Jam’iyyat Da’wa Tablighul Islam, popularly known as J D T Islam is a charitable institution run under the management of a registered committee recognised by both Central and State Governments. It commenced functioning as an orphanage for the destitute offspring of the bygone Malabar rebellion during colonial regime and has journeyed a long way to attain its present position and status.
As the years progress, this institution has become an inevitable platform which has proven its versatility and success in bringing meaning to the lives of umpteen number of people. It is an institution of excellence, a holistic training ground, a dynamic workplace, a second home and a strong family for generations. It has a rich history of providing quality education and has been standing strong for 101 years now. It specially focuses on caring students, in order to create a community, committed to the pursuit of academic and ethical excellence. It empowers the children and youth to rise up to the challenges of time by enlightening them with the best of wisdom and knowledge.
At present 26 different institutions both professional and non professional are run under this management. Through the long years of service J D T has been able to imprint an impeccable image, winning a wider acceptance and acclaim in the whole of Malabar. Providing multifaceted exposure to the wards, the institute prepares more ethical, professional and academically affluent students and moulds socially committed and responsible citizens.
